Unlimited Web Hosting FREE for 3 Years

Hostable.com

I ran across this website today and thought I’d share the info in case any of my readers are interested in starting their own websites this year.

Screen shot Hostable

From skimming the ad, you get 3 years of web hosting, email accounts and all sorts of ad-ons for free (+ a .99 setup fee) and you can pay for your own domain name and add it to your site.  After three years, the regular monthly price is $6.99.

200 Countries, 200 Years, 4 Minutes

I have never liked statistics, data analysis, or trying to understand charts and graphs.  However, I watched a TEDtalk by Hans Rosling in the past year or so and statistics and data finally took on new life for me.  I’m still not thrilled about them, but Hans at least makes them understandable and interesting.
Take a look at what he can do with statistics!

He know there are a lot of people like me that just don’t get too excited about stats and he’s making interactive data available to the general population!

Tech Tools to Check Out (Part II)

Here are a few more educational technology resources that I’ve learned about at the OETC11 conference this week:

CollaborizeClassroomCollaborize Classroom is a free online learning platform that allows teachers to transcend the boundaries of their physical classroom to engage students in an online collaborative learning environment. Collaborize Classroom offers a variety of compelling and intuitive structures for online discussion that are designed to support innovative teaching and promote higher level thinking skills to produce more powerful learning opportunities.

Android Market NOW ONLINE! – I believe this was unleashed today but may be wrong.  The Android Market that is available on your Droid phones is now available on your desktop/laptop web browser and can sync with your phones.  Sweet!

The Future of Education – Technology presentations, “Wiki, Wiki, Wow” information, etc.

FREE Teacher Resources at Discovery Education – “Discovery Education offers a broad range of free classroom resources that complement and extend learning beyond the bell.  Foster deeper engagement and opportunities for students to take charge of their own learning with high quality, engaging, relevant tools designed for today’s busy teachers and parents. Explore our programs and contests, interactive games, puzzles,  lesson plans, videos and more.”

Instructure / Canvas – an open source replacement for Blackboard.  There appear to be 3 versions available:  Canvas CV – Open Source AGPL, Canvas Onsite – Commercial License, Canvas Cloud – Service Subscription (The latter is best for districts with minimal IT Staff.)

ProjectSpacePlanes – A weather balloon, 100 paper airplanes loaded with memory cards, a tracking website, and a twitter feed.  Cool for science fans!

Stay tuned… there’s more to come!
